The melody of this song has been playing my hands for so many years. Maybe five years before I wrote any lyrics to it. Actually I lived in just that first chord for I don't know how many months before going any further. Sometimes I hear a chord, and maybe one or two notes on the other hand, and can just live in it. Swim in it like water. I have to get to know it - get to really, deeply know it before I move further. That's how I learn and write - it's a slow, moving, heart-opening process. This melody actually goes with a song I wrote called “Come Into My Garden," but I wrote these lyrics, Esta Vida de Amor, for a benefit concert at a grassroots climate organization that is dear to me. These lyrics are pure and simple — about the sun, the water, the sky, nourishing food, how lucky we are for all these gifts, and a simple question: how can we give thanks for all this?
Este amor
esta tierra
este agua
este cielo
Este sol
esta luz
esta gente
esta vida
Como podemos dar gracias
por esta vida de amor
esta vida de amor
esta vida de amor
Agua limpio
suelo rico
arboles plantados
cielos tranquilos
Comida bendita
comunidad unida
flores de primavera
toda esta bondad
Dando gracias por esta vida
esta vida hermosa
esta vida de amor
