Mystic Waters is a song about the waterways of Mystic River and Lakes in Arlington, Massachusetts. I caught the first glimmers of this melody in a moment with a dear friend just standing by the waters, watching the light of the day fade. It was one of those precious moments where it isn't necessarily quiet… but you enter quietude… with all the breathing, changing beauty of the natural world. After that moment, I began to watch the waters more and more, noticing how their nature was so myriad - rushing, crashing, breaking waves, and also still and slow and settled. Like us, with all our emotions and movement and insights and actions. Waters reflect so much, about the world, about ourselves. But we must go to the meet them, spend time with them, for them to speak.
See you in the morning, waters
when the dark sky has settled on the land
and your mauve, midnight waves
have been traded for the ways
of the early morning songs
of the red-bellied robins
and the red-winged blackbirds
on the Riverway
on the riverway
on the riverway
on the riverway
on the riverway
where I recall
how things move
like a river
on The Way
Fast, slow, crash still
wash over stones
in mystic waters
See you in the evening, waters
when the bright sky ain’t so blinding
and this breath settles down
for the moon calms my doubts
of the way we’ll get through
the darkness and the gloom
for the earth has a way
to wake us each day
so we must have a way
to awaken us in time
to the haunting and awe
of this one Love Law
Fast, slow, crash still
wash over stones
in mystic waters
For the waters knowing
the Mystic speaks
through all her reflections
of beauty
