Wild Places

Wild Places is about the wild places of planet earth, and also the wild places of our breathing, primal, animal bodies. With the loss of the wilderness and thus wildness of planet earth, we have also begun to lose the wildness of ourselves. Western modernity has normalized utilitarianism and hyper-productivity at the cost of the rhythms of our bodies, seasonality, and the natural ebbing and flowing of our energies as connected to darkness and light. We work 9-5 no matter the season. No matter if we start and end the day without seeing the sun. No matter the natural tendency and human need for wintering, shared by all the other animals and trees and beings. We think we are so different, but we share something, many things, with all of life. And we'd do a whole lot better if we listened more. This song is more than about what has been lost though. It is about my deep belief in the possibility of re-wilding.

Working, late into the night

my head is dizzy, so is my sight

Night comes,

haven’t been outside all day

But it’s gray anyway

City livin’, what to say

Wild places

are they gone from the world?

Wild places,

have they been lost?

Maybe, if we leave it all alone

the quiet beauty

of our breathing home

it could re-grow

It could re-grow,

all that quiet beauty

of our breathing home

Nine to five, and parking lots

take the train, the screeching makes me insane

trash strewn about on the street

what happened to the flowers, and the trees,

and our humanity?

Wild places

are they gone from the world?

Wild places,

have they been lost?

Maybe if we leave it all alone

the quiet beauty

of our breathing home

it could re-grow
